Local magazine

Local magazine

Let's go back to the village. The CJA premises were located at Carrer Sant Joan, 10 and opened to the public in May 1968. A club that, apart from other activities, created a cultural magazine. The magazine "THE DAWN". In the municipal archive, thanks to anonymous donations, we have 8 numbers preserved (until December 1969). A magazine that had an annual subscription of 100 pts. and had several local contributors, sections that talked about history, agriculture, music, etc. and covers illustrated by albaidin artists. Each collaborator wrote his article with his typewriter and then with a cyclostyle (it was a multicopier that made the copies using a special ink on a gelatinous plate) the relevant copies were made for members or readers sporadic (10 pts./loose number).

"L'Alba" or "L'Auba"? the covers do not lead to doubt, but in some articles or letters to the director the word "Auba" was written by mistake. "auba" is a variant of "alba" due to semi-consonant velarization; or maybe, the error would be because the "u" and "l" keys were together on the typewriter and the person typing made a mistake by typing the letter that wasn't there? Personally, I stick with the first one. Velarization is a phonetic phenomenon, a type of assimilation, that alters the pronunciation of certain sounds in contact with velar consonants (the tongue moves towards the roof of the mouth).

The section that only appeared in one issue was “ads by words... and by signs". We are left with the following announcement:” I sell all kinds of hole factory. We make special holes for donuts, watering cans and noses. If you You have noses, don't hesitate to order us some good holes, which we will serve for a refund. C/ de los Colaos, nº 100".

It also deserves to be highlighted among others, and weighted by me, the writings/articles to recover our folklore such as the dances, albaes, rondalles, and the articles of Messa (as he himself recognizes in the article "I who have the unpopular condition of often having different opinions than others”) written in Valencian. In one of them he talks about the visit of the Valencian singer and poet Marià Albero to Albaida. A performance-colloquium courtesy of Caixa Estalvis i Pietat de València that was held in the house of Josep Segrelles thanks to his generosity and hospitality. Remember, we are in the year 1968. A colloquium, mainly of pre-university youth, in which, among other topics, the burning current affairs of the singer who did not go to the televised contest, of his subsequent desertion, were discussed of singing (translating lyrics) in their mother tongue to make money, of the protest song or of the virgin state of knowledge of the mother tongue (a little girl asked the meaning of the word "struggle" and a teacher asked to translate the lyrics of Marià Albero's songs). We find in the magazine, the letter that JM Serrat addressed to the director of TVE explaining and reasoning the reasons for singing in Catalan or accepting his resignation (remember that a malicious media campaign was developed by the national press against him and the languages vernacular).

Another section that we will remember from the magazine is the so-called "Corrillos de la calle” (to roar). It was a section that collected the impressions of the neighbors without blunts and of spontaneous conversation the palpitation of the citizens of Albaidino. The section had 3 sections that were three questions: -what are you about COMPLAINT, what FLIGHT, what APPLAUSE. We have compiled a handful of those answers, which we transcribe verbatim, as they appear in the magazine.

WHAT IS THE COMPLAINT ABOUT:
